What NOT to Wear/Bring to Your Job Interview

by on January 19, 2012

Many people worry about what to wear to their job interview.  Should you dress super nice, business casual etc etc?  The real question is ‘What should you not wear?’ and ‘What should you not Bring?’.

And here is a list to consider.

Not Wear:

  • Jeans – Some jobs this would be acceptable, but very few. Best to go without.
  • Tennis Shoes – Unless you  are interviewing to become a tennis coach.
  • Piercings – If you have a lot, take most of them out.
  • T-Shirts – This should be obvious, but even for teenagers applying at Taco Bell… put on a collared shirt.

Not Bring:

  • Cell Phone – Well, okay, you can bring it but for goodness sakes please mute it or just turn it off.  Best to just leave it in the car.
  • Gum – Not in your mouth or in your pocket. Mm-K?
  • Ipod – Its annoying enough when someone doesn’t want to talk to you.
  • Your Favorite Drink in Your Favorite Cup – Yep, this means no coffee, soda or that dorky water bottle you carry around and think is so cool.
  • A backpack – What are you in high school?  Oh, you are? Okay it still isn’t a good idea.

So there you have it. A quick list of what NOT to wear and bring to the job interview.
